Matthew Rehrl MD

Matthew was born in the United States Air Force Hospital located in Cricklade & Highworth, Wiltshire, England—not far from Stonehenge (though he assures you, the proximity does not imply causation!).

Thanks to the United States Air Force and his parents, Matthew spent his early years growing up across Middle America, in places like Minot, North Dakota, Kincheloe Air Force Base, Michigan, and Colorado Springs, Colorado.

His academic journey led him to degrees in Mechanical Engineering, Physics (M.S.), and eventually, Medicine (M.D.). As a newly minted physician, he went on to see over 100,000 patients, gaining invaluable education not just in medicine but in the intricacies of the human condition.

During his clinical years, Matthew began writing, publishing numerous blog posts and articles that reflect his thoughts on medicine, wellness, and more.

Despite leading an active lifestyle, including marathon running, power yoga, and mountain climbing, Matthew was sidelined by severe hip arthritis.

The years of difficulty walking, though challenging, became a transformative period where he started examining walking from physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual perspectives.

This reflection culminated in his two non-fiction books: Think-Walking, which explores the link between walking and creativity, and The Joy of Walking, which is dedicated to finding happiness and fulfillment in walking.

Fortunately, after two successful hip surgeries, Matthew is back on his feet and an enthusiastic walker. He currently resides in the Pacific Northwest with his wife, Alexa, and their cat, Roo.
