We often think new technologies, such as AI and Big Data, are dehumanizing in the healthcare domain.
We’re right. They are.
But is dehumanization always a negative?
Not necessarily.
Consider the possibility that a facet of dehumanization is actually non-judgement.
Non-judgement can be very reassuring to patients. Consider weighing patients before every visit. Even something as simple as this, measuring someone’s weight face-to-face, can be laced with judgement, tainting everything that follows, so a little non-judgmental AI based approach to something like this might actually be better.
Bottom line? When considering the dehumanization of new technologies such as Big Data or AI, at least entertain the possibility that there may be scenarios where this isn’t such a bad thing.
