I just just finished a 6 week MIT-Sloan course on AI, called:  Artificial Intelligence: Implications for Business Strategy.

It was an excellent course, and it exceeded my expectations.

Here are three of many takeaways for me which stand out:

  1. Artificial Intelligence  ( all aspects of AI, including machine learning, deep learning, robotics , and natural language processing ) requires massive amounts of data and processing speed.  The amount of data required for effective AI is huge, and gives companies with ownership of massive data sets a significant advantage.
  2. I am not to impressed with self-driving cars.  Although I see the market for commercial use ( such as trucks ),  I think the consumer’s desire for self-driving cars is overrated.
  3. AI is giving us the ability to extract significant quantities of  information from large data sets, and,  to a lesser extent, this  is creating new knowledge sets, but I don’t believe it offers much in terms of what to do with that knowledge.   Rephrased, because of AI, our knowledge may grow, but I doubt our wisdom will.

For those of you interested in Artificial Intelligence, and who also have about 6-8 hours a week to devote to a course, it is well worth it.
