As I approach my 200th blog post, I realize it’s time to level-up my blog’s tagline, which currently is:

artificial intelligence. health. healthcare.

Review my last few dozen posts, this tagline is simply not very good; it neither represents what I have written nor does it reflect where I want to go, so it’s certainly time for an upgrade.

But what should I change it to? That’s the tough question.

There are practical considerations, such as search-ability and relevance of the terms. There is also the necessity of it as acting as a guidepost for website visitors telling them what my blog is all about. And there is also the structural requirement of how this tagline helps integrate my website into my broader platform—both digital and real-world.

All tricky stuff, but the really difficult nut to crack in answering this question is more fundamental. It’s deciding where I want my blog and website to go.

Should I keep my blog broad, and use it as a tool to explore some of the different ideas I have surrounding healthcare? This is what I have done so far. It does have the advantage of letting me clarify some of my ideas to and for myself (I am a strong advocate that the act of writing things out brings clarity), but keeping my site broad certainly lowers its popular appeal and utility to others.

Or should I go for a blog that is narrow and deep? From a professional perspective, this is quite appealing because it’s much easier to develop an audience (if that’s my goal) around a single narrow topic rather than several broad ones.

Anyway, broad or narrow? That’s the real decision I’ll be making over the next couple of weeks (Jan 31 is my self-imposed deadline). The tagline will just be a reflection of it.
