My top March blog—or at least the most relevant March blog to me—is Stress, Creativity, And Neural Networks. In it, I discussed and referenced an article about how certain types of stress greatly diminish certain types of creativity.

Well, this past week I had a hip replacement (a moderate surgical stress) and let me tell you—my creative brain came to a standstill! It’s as if my body knew I had to martial all of my physical and psychological tools to do such activities as getting up from the bed, doing my home physical therapy, and going potty. The Great American Novel wasn’t going to be written this week!

That being said, although there has been no “creative doing” this past week, my surgery has been a very rich physical and psychological experience, one that I will be harvesting for future content, so it hasn’t been a total creative loss.

Anyway, the post referred to above is worth a read, especially if you have a stressful event coming up.

Be gentle with yourself.
