At the end of each month, I enjoy reviewing my last month’s blog posts to see if there was at least one rough diamond, one insightful idea. (This falls under the principle that even a broken clock is right twice a day, or if you shoot enough arrows you are bound to occasionally hit the target! Heck, with 31 posts, at least one might be good!).
I think my big idea for March is contained in the post Is Healthcare Really a Service Industry?
Here I suggest that patients are perceived by corporations primarily as a data source, and healthcare is not so much a service industry as a data industry.
Quoting myself:
Data is the coin of the realm of healthcare, and although a patient engaging a healthcare institution is only seen once in the context of “service”, the data from even that one visit—not dissimilar to actual coins— will be used indefinitely for years in the future.
Certainly an idea which warrants further development.
