Although it’s common to say “write for the reader”, I believe this rule doesn’t uniformly apply to blogging.
Certainly it’s important to have empathy for the reader. Use correct grammar and correct punctuation, and make your sentences simple and clear. Strunk and White are my heros.
But your motivation for blogging? Does your content have to be for the reader?
No.
For example, in my case, I don’t write for the reader so much as I write for myself.
The act of writing is a way for me to clarify an idea. It takes something composed of a vague, semi-random firing of millions of neurons and coalesces it into a discrete set of syllables and characters which has substance outside of my mind.
If you think about it, even if a blog post is never read by anyone else but yourself, it is still an amazing act of creation!
So it’s okay to write principally for yourself.
And, at least for me, it’s even better.
Keep blogging.
