Although I’ve blogged daily for nearly two years, I haven’t focused on SEO, I haven’t created an email list, and I haven’t done a newsletter.
This has been an intentional choice, since the principle purpose of my blog was to strengthen a daily habit of writing.
But as I get closer to publication of two books, I’ll need to change my platform approach. Part of this will be structural, for example, adding an email sign-up list to my homepage. However, it also needs to be a mental shift—writing with the intent to nudge a reader’s behavior, creating calls to action, and especially developing more useful content to help others. (After all, the key to exapnding readership is always by helping the readers).
It means periodically putting on my business cap instead of my creative cap.
It will be a fun challenge!
