Looking at my blog critically, I can say the following things:

  • The content is average, with only rare (once per month?) moments of deep insight.
  • The writing is average.
  • Taken as a whole, it is unfocused.

So, with all of this mediocrity going on, why do I love my blog?

First, it is a space in which I create something every day.

Second—and more importantly—it’s giving me the opportunity to ship something every day, and for me it is the shipping of content, not just the creation of it, which makes me a writer.

Third, by careful use of the Topics categories, it’s a public repository of my ideas.

Fourth, unlike LinkedIn and Twitter, it’s a cornerstone of “digital me,” one that I fully control and own.

Fifth and finally, those rare moments of deep insight have, at times, been life-changing for me.

These five reasons are why I love my blog, and why I will continue to write and post every day.
