At my desk I have a print called Reaching for the Stars, created by the artist Marvin Oliver.
Isn’t that Raven, stealing the box of light from the chief and delivering it to the black sky (giving us the sun, moon, stars, and planets), a tricky little thing?
Anyway, this print is my motivation for a current writing project; it’s also an excellent reminder that Native American Art isn’t some dead relic of the past, but an active, thriving discipline of the present and the future—one which is essential for us to embrace so we (humanity) can better engage with our environment.
