On the physician members-only social media website Doximity there is a recent post entitled “It’s Wrong for Doctors To Retire Early”.

Not unexpectedly, there is an overwhelming response by the physician commenters that they should be free to retire whenever the heck they wanted!

However, somewhat unexpectedly, quite a few responses state that electronic health record  (EHR) implementation was the SPECIFIC reason given for pursuing early retirement.

Justified or not*,  there is a deep, broad vein of animosity towards EHRs in the physician community.

Healthcare management, EHR software developers, and new entrants into the healthcare game (such as Amazon, Apple, and Google), need to accept this animosity as fact.

If they don’t, they may find there’s no one at the other end of the mouse.

*Side Note:  I am ambivalent about EHRs. I recognize their huge upside, but I also recognize their equally large downside.
