For me, the most valuable real estate on my iMac is the upper-left corner of my screen.
Why?
Because it is a “hot corner” : A digital action initiated by cursor placement in any of the screen corners through the iOS Screensaver app, which in the case of my iMac’s upper-left corner is to place the computer into a “digital-sleep.”
When working on my computer, sometimes the most valuable thing to do is instead to take a little time to read a physical book, to jot down a note, to sketch out an idea, or to just sit quietly and think.
And to be able to do that without getting out of my chair—an act which opens up other potential sources of distraction? Nothing beats the ease of slamming my cursor into my upper-left hot corner!
Anyway, for me, this periodic digital sleep is nearly as productive as some extra physical sleep. It’s a tool which I use liberally and something you may want to give a try.
