I’d suggest that healthcare executives take a hard look at Amazon’s website history and ask themselves what the fundamental difference is between Amazon’s approach to their digital platform and most healthcare institutions’ approach to their digital platforms.

To me the answer is self-evident. Amazon has always seen its digital platform as something dynamic and fluid, with the pace of design change being driven by customer needs and increased profitability. Healthcare institutions, however, see their digital platforms as something static, only to be updated even 5-7 years, and even then reluctantly.

Put another way, Amazon sees their website as something that drives revenue, healthcare institutions see their websites as something which drives cost.
