Is the research in Artificial Intelligence (AI) applications within the healthcare beginning to taper down?

Certainly looking at the graph above, the published research suggests this is the case, however this may just be a reflection of AI efforts within the healthcare industry moving away from research and towards application.

In other words, it could be that AI is now entering a competitive phase where research is being kept more private.

In fact, a recent report from McKinsey –  Artificial intelligence: The time to act is now – suggests that the Global AI/Healthcare Industry may be at the $5-10 trillion dollar level,  with currently over $1 billion dollars invested in startup equity.

So, is research in Healthcare AI declining?

Perhaps the publicly available research, but I suspect the private research is moving along at a rapid pace.
