One ethical question I am interested in is the relationship of an individual’s ethics with a group’s ethics (if such an entity exists). Specifically, what is the relationship between the architecture of a group and the moral responsibility of the individual who is a part of that group?
Some more narrow questions:
How morally responsible is a soldier for the action of their platoon? Their division? Their army? (Consider this second-order subset question: Can a Confederate soldier ever be considered a hero?)
How morally responsible is a worker for the action of their company? Their CEO?
How morally responsible is a protestor at one end of a protest for the actions of another protester at the other end of the protest? How about if this protest is a mob?
How morally responsible is a citizen for the actions of their country?
There are no simple answers to these questions, but I do think there is some moral linkage between all of these individual/group dyads. This is one of the reasons I drift away from being a joiner: I am hesitant to bind my morality with the morality of others.
