Here are some quotes about pride:

“Pride goes before destruction, and a haughty spirit before a fall.”

Proverbs 16:18

“But he gives more grace. Therefore it says, ‘God opposes the proud but gives grace to the humble.’ ”

James 4:6

“Let go of anger. Let go of pride. When you are bound by nothing you go beyond sorrow.”

Buddha

“Displaying riches and titles with pride brings about one’s downfall.”

Laozi

“O sun, to tell thee how I hate thy beams, That bring to my remembrance from what state I fell; how glorious once above thy sphere; Till pride and worse ambition threw me down, Warring in heaven against heaven’s matchless King.”

Satan, Paradise Lost

So to what extent should I be proud of my accomplishments, or the accomplishments of others?

Or how about feeling pride about random acts of chance? (For example, if I won the lottery, should I feel proud about that?)

The emotion of pride, similar to the emotion of anger, certainly has its place in the human experience. But at least for me—from a spiritual perspective—although pride isn’t a red flag, it’s at least a caution sign.
