Like most people, I have a near-infinite number of ideas on how the world ought to be.
But I prefer spending most of my time understanding the way the world is.
Then, after I identify the ought-is gaps of interest to me, I go to the next step and consider which gaps I should try to close.
My time is valuable to me, so I try to work on ought-is gaps within my control and with a possibility of success within a reasonable time frame—usually 1-3 years.
The ought-is gaps outside of my control (and this is a very large group!) have the potential to derail me from my mission and are therefore best avoided.
