What’s the Best State For Physicians To Work In?

Here’s a slightly edited post based on one I wrote for The Mayo Clinic Social Media Network a few months ago:

What’s the best state for a physician to work in? Here’s some starting point links on how each state shapes up in terms of physician friendliness.

  1. Cost of Living by State

2. Medical Malpractice Risk per State (per 100,000)

3. Physician Income by State

4. Physician Friendliness for Mental Health Issues ( eg – in what state would a doctor have to report to the licensing board a distant history of treatment for postpartum depression?) The reporting requirement for prior mental health issues is particularly important because it is a reasonable proxy for how the various State Medical Boards treats their physicians.

Putting these all together? I think Hawaii comes out on top.
