A natural extension of my being board certified in Obesity Medicine and having a deep interest in Social Media is bring curious as to where they intersect.

Above is a graph showing the increasing number of PUBMED citations using both Social Media + Obesity as search terms.

Although the total number of papers from an absolute perspective is rather small ( for example, in 2017 there were 4569 papers for “Influenza” versus  84 papers  for “Social Media” + “Obesity”,  the trend is remarkable, and, I would expect with the future development of machine learning and more commonplace use of big data processing, I expect the body of research to grow even more.
