Most physicians don’t like Twitter.

They think it will waste their precious time. For most of them, approached without clear intention, they are probably right.

But, as my mom use to say to me – “It’s not all about you.”

For now, forget about Healthcare 3.0 advanced technologies, such as the Semantic Web, Artificial Intelligence, Big Data, Blockchain, and the Internet of Things, and how these engage with typical social media.

Just from a simple Healthcare 2.0 perspective –   by which I mean social media – you are being evaluated, judged, and commented upon online in multiple different ways.

To even hear this conversation, let alone respond to it or direct it,  you have to have a grasp on some social media basics, and, to get this understanding, Twitter is usually the best entry point fro a physician.

Put another way, not understanding Twitter from a  business perspective is like not understanding physiology from a physician’s perspective: You can fake it for awhile, but in the future you are going to really, really suffer.

Get on Twitter.  The sooner, the better.
