We all know that tweets with photographs and videos have higher engagement than stand alone tweets.  Some say up to 1200% more engagement.

We also all know that tweets with humor get more engagement.

Finally, and sadly, we also knowt highly negative tweets – tweets that are designed to be inflammatory – often get significant more engagement.

But look at this:  an example of a recent tweet of mine that got quite a lot of engagement by just being nice.

It only took me a couple of minutes to compose.

I copied Roxane Gay’s twitter address, intentionally after the word “hi” , making git more public.

A spent an extra moment to include the amazon link to her book “Hunger” A Memoir of (MY) Body”, spending a moment to shrink this book link.

Finally, I spent another minute or two really thinking through what I would like to say to her if she ever read the tweet: Basically, that she is an honest, and an exceptional writer, and thank you.

That’s it.

The total tweet only took 2-3 minutes to compose, and my only real intent was to spread some “good juju” in the Twitterverse.

Anyway, the results speak for themselves.

Ms. Gay happened to look at it, and responded with a  thank you, resulting in thousands of impressions and, more specifically, 76 profile clicks.

Not bad for 2-3 minutes of work.

Anyway, the point I am trying to make isn’t necessarily that “Tweeting Nice” needs to be part of your strategy to build you digital platform ( although it could be); rather it’s that consistently being thoughtful and nice in the digital world may often be reciprocated.

Bottom line:  Tweet Nice.
