The author Steven Pressfield—one of my writing role models—says there is a force in the universe called the “Resistance” that actively opposes all creative people in pursuit of their goals and dreams. It’s a force which isn’t just trying to slow them down or stymie them, but destroy them.
I believe Resistance exists, and I also believe in its lethal spiritual nature. But it does has one invaluable quality: Since it actively rises up against my most important tasks to achieve my creative goals, it acts a a compass—a true north—to what my most important tasks are.
Rephrased, thanks to the Resistance, I know with certainty what needs to get done: it’s what I am most tying to avoid doing.
