To master the craft of writing, I need to master three separate elements.

The first element is consistency. I feel I am well on the way to achieving this. I have blogged every day for roughly the past 500 days, and because of this I’m going to give myself a solid A.

The second element is quality. Although this encompasses topic selection and topic development, what I mean here by “quality” is technically proficient grammar and word usage. Here I think I am below average. I have lots of room for improvement. For this element I give myself a D.

The final element is quantity. Combining this with consistency, I am referring to my daily word count. I currently only write about 500 words a day. However, I have a good grasp of all the various efficiency writing tools available and I also have a large amount of free time available to write, so I know I have the capability to generate 2000-4000 words a day consistently. Therefore, because my daily word count so clearly undershoots my potential, I will give myself another D for this element.

Combining my three elements’ sub-grades — one A and two Ds— I average out to a writing mastery GPA of 2.0. That’s a solid C. Suffice it to say I have a long way to go!
